on O'Connell's release from Richmond Prison, where he had served three months of a
one-year sentence for conspiracy related to rallies organized to gain repeal of the
Act of Union and Ireland's emancipation from England. O'Connell, dubbed Ireland's
Liberator, was first jailed in 1824 for delivering his "Address to the People of
Ireland" on the same issues. This volume contains as an appendix the pamphlet, The
Irish in the English Army and Navy, and The Irish Arms Bill, in Five Letters by John
Cornelius O'Callaghan (Dublin: James McCormick, 1843). VG. $250
